Kelvin, Bottomley & Baird, Ltd., Kew A rated marine chronometer with 8-day winding indicator, mounted in gimbaled brass tub within three-tier brass bound unmarked mahogany box with recessed drop handles, silvered dial of approximately 5 inch diameter dial signed "Kelvin Bottomley & Baird Ltd. 16 & 18 Cambridge St. Glasgow," further engraved " Auxilliary Compensation" and numbered 8131, KWKS, fusee-drive with spring detent escapement, bi-metallic compensation balance with gold colored helical hairspring, spotted damascene, s#8131 with matching serial number to dial and within tub.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, good winding indicator function, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, some spotting and smudge to surface; nearly mint dial with few very small surface spots; nearly mint hands; tub and gimbals excellent; box in fine cosmetic condition overall, loss of finish and a few smaller scratches in areas, small split in top which is not especially noticeable. Key very oxidized.
